Some time later, the consumer began to receive text messages inviting him to take part in a gambling game which he ignored. However, he continued to receive text messages including one that advised he had been entered into a weekly prize draw and would be charged £4.50 every week unless he replied ‘STOP’. The consumer decided it was not good practice to respond to a unsolicited text message, and reported this matter to ! his mobile phone provider.
It transpired the consumer had been charged £58.50 to his mobile phone contract by the scammer. With intervention from his provider, the subscription was cancelled and a refund was received.
