Survey Findings - Residents see the benefits of CrimeReports
Over 85,000 people have visited Hampshire and the Isle of Wight’s new crime mapping website, CrimeReports, since it launched in October 2011.
A recent survey carried out by visitors to the site provided some interesting and positive findings about the success of CrimeReports.
70 per cent of those surveyed stated that their primary reason to visit CrimeReports was to check the crime in their area and 54 per cent stated that CrimeReports would encourage them to report a crime or incident.
69 per cent felt that they had found the information they were looking for and 73 per cent stated that they felt better informed about policing in their local area. Chief Inspector Jerry Patterson said: “CrimeReports offers our residents an insight like never before into crime and incidents in and around where they live and work.
“We are continually working to improve the site and provide more detailed information and I encourage our residents to visit CrimeReports and sign up for regular alerts; so that they can be kept up-to-date.”
CrimeReports (www.crimereports.co.uk) is a partnership project between Hampshire Constabulary, Hampshire County Council, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, the Probation Service and all District and Unitary Councils across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. 460 people took the CrimeReports survey. The full survey results can be found at http://www3.hants.gov.uk/cr-survey.pdf
We are in the process of evaluating the findings around the information users didn't find on the site and will keep you all updated on how we propose to address them. We are already working on providing more information about the crime. We are also working with the developers to provide more information about crime trends to show if an area is going up, down or staying the same.
We thank you for your feedback and we use it to continually try to improve the site.
Many thanks Hampshire CrimeReports Team
