Neighbourhood Watch

Travellers Return to Romsey Area

Romsey Police are today advising of Travellers again in the area (see note at end of this Bulletin). If you see any of the vehicles listed, please let the Police know.

Please be vigilant of your property, and ensure in particular that outbuildings are secure and access to land is secure.

General Advice for All

DO NOT accept work to be undertaken by "Nottingham Knockers" (Travellers)

DO keep all out buildings locked at all times

DO NOT leave doors to out building open for longer than necessary

DO NOT garden machinery/garden valuable unattended if at all possible

DO try to keep valuables out of site in your Home

 Extra Advice for Farmers/Landowners

Hampshire Police advise that it is recommended that regular checks are made on any ground large enough to allow multivehicle access. An obvious location for them to try and get to is the sports ground but also any piece of land with easy access. Whilst Hampshire police will increase patrols in the area, it is recommended that a routine review of any gates allowing access to fields is undertaken and possibly take regular photographs of the locks to give future evidence that the locks were intact. (The travellers will cut their way in and say someone else must have done it). If your land is not gated, please make arrangements to block access where possible to prevent unlawful access to your property.

If you see any suspicious activity, please alert the police immediately on 101.

Please take particular note of any strangers, unusual vehicles providing both as detailed a description as possible and the location of the sighting.

Crime in progress? Call the Police on 999 immediately
