Gauntlet Notes - October 2011

Bottle BanksThe petition was clear in that the majority of residents want to keep the bottle banks in the area of the recreation ground. Despite feelings that the bottle banks were there first it would simply be wrong of TVBC to leave the bins right up against the fences of the new houses. Three alternative positions in the recreation ground area have already been proposed and strongly objected to. We are now down to our last option. As you will see from the Parish Council minutes it is proposed to place the bins where the cricket hut is currently located and to shield it as best we can to reduce the sound. This of course relies completely on the good will of the cricket club in being prepared to relocate their hut. We also need to draw up plans and costs, get the environmental sound experts to pass an opinion and then put the proposal to the Parish Council meeting of 3rd October.Village WorkshopA separate notice has been included in this month’s Gauntlet about this event and I would urge everyone who can come to do so. It’s an opportunity to bring you up to date on some of the changes going on around us and let you have a say on how best to tackle them. If you believe communities can work together to make a difference then this is for you. We are running the event ourselves and will rely totally on open minds and encouraging you to have a say. For anyone who wants more background information mentioned then I will progressively be adding it to my web site at http://cllrtward.wordpress.comSuperfast BroadbandAs part of a national strategy to enable all 25 million  homes in England to receive a broadband speed of at least 2 Mb/s by 2015, the Government has announced an allocation of £8,420,000 to Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton.Hampshire County Council has stated that it is still considering its proposals to bring superfast broadband to the 50,000 homes and 7,000 businesses premises in the county (excluding Portsmouth and Southampton). These figures include 12,450 homes and 740 business premises in Test Valley. The pilot project to deliver superfast broadband to Little London and Smannell, using contractor Magdalene, is well underway and results should be known in the Autumn. Cllr Tony Ward01794 389649    cllrtward@testvalley.gov.uk
