| Mobile LibraryHampshire County Council sent me this great news following problems we had with the last library visit. “It is clear that there are some stops on the new routes, including King's Somborne, that have proved to be more popular than expected from the evidence of use prior to the review and the comments received during the consultation periods. We acknowledge that the duration of the mobile library's visit needs to be extended. We are pleased to inform you that the mobile library will now spend an hour and fifteen minutes in the village from 2:45pm to 4pm. We trust that the earlier arrival of the vehicle will make it possible to park in the lay-by and, coinciding with the time children finish school will provide an opportunity for them to make use of the mobile library service too.” I still want to know if you want books from the mobile library but cannot get to Church Road so please contact me or get a friend/neighbour to contact me on your behalf – I am sure we can find a solution just for you. Bottle BanksI would like to thank all of you that have taken the trouble to contact me personally or signed the petition on this issue and making your views clear. This will make it easier to make the best decision possible. Cabinet Office Visit Vicky Westhorpe, an official from the Cabinet Office, visited the Borough Council to see at first hand at how the Big Society is developing in Test Valley. The visit included a meeting with the Leader of the Council and the Chief Executive, followed by visits to the Turnaround project in Andover and a meeting with local volunteers and community leaders in King Somborne. There was also a visit to the Lights Theatre looking at the way volunteers support its work.We used the King’s Somborne visit to highlight how a proactive village operates with its many volunteers and the problems and opportunities we saw for the future. I was joined by John Werrett, Peter Storey, Dawn Harrison, Sandy Pepperell, John Vanderpump and Sue Jackson.Helping Young PeopleThe recent riots have highlighted the importance of getting young people on the right track and as cabinet member responsible for Leisure & Wellbeing I am lucky enough to see the many examples of that in Test Valley. The most recent was the first Princes Trust Team run in Andover and to see the transformation in the 14 youngsters over the 12 weeks of the project was outstanding. TVBC provided them with part of the programme rebuilding a community garden in Andover. The project culminated with them making a public presentation at the Lights Theatre speaking individually and as a team – full of confidence and a clear idea of what they wanted to do with their lives – well done to all involved with the Princes Trust.Cllr Tony Ward01794 389649 cllrtward@testvalley.gov.uk |
