Gauntlet Notes - July 2011

The Gauntlet - From the Borough Councillor – July 2011

Bottle Banks

Now the new houses adjacent to the recreation ground are being occupied, we are seeking an alternative location for the bottle banks as we have received noise complaints from new and existing houses. We need either to move the bins either to another location on the recreation area or elsewhere in the village. If we cannot achieve this then we will be forced to remove the bottle banks from the village.

We have been working with the Parish Council to find a resolution but we need your help. If you have a suggestion to help then please contact me.

Mobile Library

I have had a meeting with Hampshire County Council about the reduction in services to make our dissatisfaction clear but there are no opportunities to change as HCC strive to save £500,000 in the library service.  Here are the usage figures for King’s Somborne

2009 April            2009 July       2010 Sept/Oct

Nutchers Drove                     5                              5                            4
Church Road                           5                              8                            4
Eldon Road                              1                              6                            8

Although these are very small numbers the library is important to these people. For those able to go to Church Road the library will still be available. A library volunteer is helping two people in Nutchers Drove and one in Eldon Road. There are other options to get books to other people in the village but we need to know who they are. If you want books you used to get from the mobile library but cannot get to Church Road then please contact me or get a friend/neighbour to contact me on your behalf – I am sure we can find a solution just for you.

Insulate Hampshire

Hampshire County Council and the Borough Councils including TVBC have got together to launch a home insulation scheme. Full details have not yet been released but at this time I can collect names of those interested. The scheme will cost no more than £99 for loft or cavity wall insulation. You can have both if you obliviously pay the £99 twice. This is subject to a survey.

Over 70's and those on certain benefits will be entitled to insulation free of charge.

The scheme is likely to be launched at the end of July.
