The Gauntlet - From the Borough Councillor – May 2011 The elections of May 5th are over and I would like to take this opportunity to thank not only those who voted to give me a second four year term but everyone who voted. There was a 55% turnout in our Ward and that’s significantly more than in previous local elections – perhaps the referendum had an effect. There were good turnouts across the Borough and the new Borough Council is made up of 36 Conservatives and 13 Liberal Democrats with 13 new councillors. The first task for the new council has been to elect a Mayor, Leader and Cabinet and I will continue my role on the Cabinet as responsible for Leisure & Wellbeing. On your behalf I have committed to:- · Oppose development that does not protect the countryside and the village environment. · Support affordable housing for local needs. · Campaign to keep and enhance community facilities. · Promote localism and the importance of community. · Ensure the Council provides high quality service at the lowest cost Please contact me if your need help on Borough Council issues and I will do my best and as requested at the Annual Parish Assembly I will use the Gauntlet to advise and inform on issues of local concern Cllr Tony Ward 01794 389649 cllrtward@testvalley.gov.uk |
