2:00pm Kings Somborne Village Hall

6 ½  miles (10 ½ Km)  2 ½ hours

Heading south we cross Eldon Road and Furzedown Road before taking the bridleway along the narrow valley before the long but gentle climb up through Parnholt Wood.  At the end of the wood we turn left and then left again to take the path along the northern edge of Parnholt Wood and then through Luke Copse.  The route joins the Clarendon Way near Hoplands and returns to the village down Red Hill and back along Winchester Road.

We leave the village on the footpath to Horsebridge where we turn south along the Test Way for 200m before turning right across the Test valley past Bossington.  On the other side of the valley we turn left along the road before turning right onto the path past Pittleworth Farm.  We cross the road at Little Wood and descend to the edge of Broughton where we cross the stream to join the Clarendon Way.  We return to the village along the Clarendon Way past How Park before descending to Froghole.

We head south and west crossing Eldon Road and Furzedown Road before taking the bridleway up through Parnholt Wood.  At the end of the wood we turn left towards Farley Mount and then east along the Clarendon Way for a short distance before dropping down to the road.  We turn left along the road and join Gypsy Lane before turning west across the fields, past the Roman settlement and through Ashley.  We take the footpath through Ashley New Buildings to rejoin the Clarendon Way before dropping back down into the village via Red Hill and back along Winchester Road.

We leave the village up Red Hill before turning onto the path past Ashley New buildings.  At the crossroads we take the path across the field past Ashley Manor Farm.  We continue south east past Ashley and the Roman settlement before turning north along Gypsy Lane.  On reaching Chalk Vale we turn right to Up Somborne before returning home past the beef unit.

We leave the village on the footpath to Horsebridge where we join the Test Way and head south to Lower Brook.  We then take the steep path up the hill (with a steel handrail) up to Michelmersh.  We pass through the churchyard and on to Manor Farm.  From Manor Farm we cross the fields to Eldon Church and then back to the village along Eldon Road.

2:00pm Stockbridge Town Hall

7½ miles (12¼ Km)  3 hours

This walk does not start from Kings Somborne Village Hall.

We start from Stockbridge Town Hall and walk west along Stockbridge High Street and up the hill before continuing on along the Roman road.  Just before reaching Houghton Down Farm we turn right and take the footpath north across Houghton Down towards Danebury Hill.  The footpath turns west and then north east before reaching the Stockbridge - Middle Wallop road.  At this point we take a diversion to Danebury Hill where there will be time for a quick look around this fascinating hill fort.  We return to the road and follow the drove towards Longstock that becomes Church Lane.  On reaching Longstock we turn north for a short distance before turning east along The Bunny to join the Test Way.  It is then south along the Test Way to return to Stockbridge Town Hall.

5¼ miles (8½ Km)  2¼ hours

We leave the village on the path along the Clarendon Way, up Cow Drove and past How Park.  Then across the water meadows to Houghton.  It is then road walking south through Houghton and west and south to Bossington and past the site of Bossington village.  At Bossington Farm we turn east, back across the water meadows to Horsebridge.  From Horsebridge we follow the Roman road, cross Romsey Road and on to Eldon Road, and back to the Village Hall.

We leave the village along Winchester Road and up Red Hill before turning left along the path past Ashley New Buildings.  At the cross roads we take the path across the field past Ashley Manor Farm and then over the hill to Chalk Vale before returning to the village past the beef unit.

We start by heading south to Eldon Road and on to the Roman road.  We follow the Roman road to Horsebridge and onto the Test Way.  Then it is north along the Test Way to How Park and back to the village via Froghole.
