Great Clarendon Full, Half &Relay Marathon follow the Bishop's Mitre helping to raise money for charity 3rd October 2010 New Records set on the Clarendon!! Spirits were hgh despite some grey clouds and some good rain at the start but still another very good turn out on this year's Clarendon Full Half Relay Marathon.. Clarendon runners once again embarked on this local, exciting popular, scenic and challenging event between the Godolphin School in Salisbury and Kings' School in Winchester. As the day progressed and the weather became brighter so did seemingly did the enthusiasm from another record number of approximately 1400 participants who registered for this year's Clarendon Full, Half and Relay Marathon There was a record number of 73 Relay teams who competed. Runners travelled from USA and many parts of England and Wales. With the continuation of the course running from Salisbury and Broughton to Winchester many comments received were that the competitors thoroughly enjoyed this year's 13th very wet, muddy and slippery Clarendon Marathon saying that the course was once again very well marshalled thanks to the Rotary Club of Winchester. Also thanks is given to many friends, colleagues and groups who assisted in helping to make this once again a popular event. Groups such as Raynet, Search and Rescue, several scouts groups who helped with marshalling, drink stations and at the finish, Fire Service, Cystic Fibrosis HMF, St John Ambulance, Wessex Cancer Trust, Macmillan Cancer Relief , and many others, these plus others will be therefore benefiting in total in £1000's in donations from the proceeds in acknowledgement for their much appreciated support. Many people who take part raise money for a charity of their own choice and attached is the team of people who managed to run the whole course both ways setting off from Winchester in the dark early in the morning and completing the course both ways all 52.4 miles of it !! They did it in just over 6 hours on her second lap. A BIG WELL DONE to these people who helped to raise money for their charity the Hello Martha Fund. Also is a picture of a runner Andrew Barton who completed the half quenches his thirst from a Waitrose drink bottle in front of the sponsors names. As well as being popular with with both the Full and Half Marathon runners many clubs and organisations entered several relay teams. Relay teams from Winchester and District AC, Portsmouth Joggers, Totton RC,Sandhurst Joggers, Shentons Solicitors and Dutton Gregory Solicitors all helped to make up the 73 teams in this popular relay team event. The winning team for the relay team event was for the third year running was Winchester & District AC who called themselves the WADAC Wanderers in a very creditable time of 2:56:01 2nd relay team was Tremendous Trekkers 3:08:03, 3rd relay team was Halterworth Harriers Hares 3:09:02 In the mens' full marathon event, which was started once again from the prestigious grounds of The Godolphin School, Ross Nickerson completed it in 2:52:22 and came in first. Picture shown. The half marathon which this year was again started from the attractive village of Broughton was won by Graham Robinson from Sandhurst Joggers in a great time 1:22:53. Ist lady in the full marathon event was runner Karen Rushton from South West Veterans AC in a very impressive time of 3:20:47 just 42 seconds away from setting a new course record which in the conditions was amazing.Picture shown. 1st lady home for the half marathon was Hannah Cooke from KPMG Running Club, Cambridge,in a very good time of 1:40:43. Paul also said afterwards that in many ways the weather conditions, the hills, the rain and the mud all added to the enjoyment of the event and was enjoyed by many and was deemed to have been a big success. Hopefully it will continue to be a main event fixture in the south of England. One runner from Winchester & District AC summed it all up by saying "Absolutely fantastic event today, the course was much harder work this year, but that didn't detract at all from the lovely atmosphere and great course."
