Prayers for Bible Sunday

PRAYER LIST for the week beginning 12th. October.

This week the church celebrates Bible Sunday and we give thanks for all the ways the scriptures teach and encourage us. We might like to reflect on the words of Jesus Himself in our gospel reading. He reveals Himself as the fulfilment of God’s promises in the Old Testament. “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” And we are called to continue His mission of love for all His people.

Please pray with thanksgiving for the gift of the Bible, and for those who open it up to our understanding. Pray for the work of the Bible Society, for Good News for Everyone (formerly the Gideons), for translators and for all who make the Bible accessible to all. Pray for places where it is dangerous to have a copy and for the spreading of the good news of Christ everywhere.

Please continue to pray for our national Church, and for the new Archbishop of Canterbury. Pray for all who are called into Christ’s service, both ordained and lay. Continue to pray for our own Church and for the search for an Associate Priest to live and work amongst us. Pray for patience as we await the results of the adverts, and discernment as we seek God’s plan for us.

Please pray for the movement towards a peaceful settlement in Gaza, and for all those suffering the results of the conflict. Pray for the Ukraine and for all places where war and injustice rage. Pray for leaders of nations to seek peace and fairness and to govern with the best interests of their people in mind.

Please pray for the sick in body, mind or spirit and for the work of the medical services. Pray for those known to us and for those who care for them. Pray that they will sense the love that God has for all of us and find Him as a living presence in their lives. Pray for the sick to have health of body, soundness of mind and peace of heart.

Pray for ourselves, that we will be honest and contrite in prayer, seeking God’s mercy in all sincerity. Pray that we may entrust the past to God’s mercy, the present to His love and the future to His wisdom.
