On Wednesday 13th August, King's Somborne WI held their ever popular afternoon tea and fundraiser. In previous years we have been pleased to support the scouts by holding our event in the scout hut, but this year moved to the village hall.
Every member of the WI played their part, from baking delicious scones, providing raffle prizes, laying tables, serving guests and much more. We were pleased to welcome over 40 visitors from across the village who enjoyed a lovely champagne afternoon cream tea with fresh British strawberries. The hall was filled with chatter and laughter all afternoon and no-one seemed in a hurry to leave which was great to see.
The WI's chosen charity this year is Andover Young Carers which seemed to strike a chord with our guests who were very generous in their purchase of raffle tickets. The star prize was a beautifully framed painting donated by Thelma Blamey who was our previous WI president.
The joyful occasion raised nearly £250 which will be shared between Andover Young Carers and WI funds.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all the WI members and our guests who made the event so wonderful. We hope to see you again next year.
