Over the last few weeks there have been a number of attempted and actual break-ins in our Parish. This seems to have escalated significantly over the weekend with a number of dwellings targeted particularly in King's Somborne It is especially important at this time that you remain vigilant and make a note of any strange or unusual activity and provide the same information to the Police on 101. If you can safely capture information on a mobile or camera, then please do so as this may prove to be enormously helpful in trying to identify the perpetrators and/or build a case to prosecute. If you believe theft is in in progress, then contact 999. Below are a few tips to help yourselves and your neighbours: - Make sure that outbuildings are kept secure and garage doors closed at all times to prevent potential assessment for thefts
- Don’t leave valuables on show that can be easily seen from the window
- Don't leave your curtains closed during daylight house
- Don't leave items of value in full view in the garden especially garden machinery or bicycles
- Make sure your car windows and sunroof (if applicable) are closed and the car locked when not in use
- If you are going away, ask a neighbour or friend to check your house regularly
- Use timer switches for lamps and radios to give the impression that someone is home
- If you have a house alarm use it - make sure that it is working and that the alarm box is in full view
- If you hear a house alarm don't ignore it - check (if safe to do so) that it is a false alarm!
- Don’t leave keys in doors or in any locations near to doors that burglars can potentially find
- Do close all windows when leaving you home and locked where possible
- Always lock your doors and close ground floor windows (and lock if available) even when leaving your home for just a minute - you never know if you might be delayed returning
- If you are in the garden or upstairs, lock your doors and close ground floor windows (and lock if available)
- Do be vigilant and record anything out of the ordinary and let the Police know
